月末に石の買い付けに行ってきました。約三年ぶりの香港。
香港はコロナ禍で最も厳しい制限をしている地域の１つで、私が行った際もマスクの着用、接触確認アプリの徹底、海外からの渡航者の外食禁止などコロナ対策は厳格にされていました。
ただ、街には相変わらず活気があり、あとは徐々に観光客が戻ってくるのを待つのみ、という勢いを感じました。
湾仔（ワンチャイ）にあるコンベンションセンターで開催のジュエリーフェアでも多くの石を見たのですが、今回は残念ながらよい石にめぐりあえず買い付けには至りませんでした。
ジュエリーフェア以上に活気に溢れていたのは同時にコンベンションセンターで開催されていたCHRISITIE‘Sのオークションとオークションプレビュー。
オブジェ、絵画、ジュエリー、陶器、家具など多岐にわたるジャンルのものが展示されていて、その中にはおなじみの日本人作家のものも多数あり、日本円でゆうに億を超える評価額が設定されていたものもありました。 来場者の中には多くの若年層の人たちが多くみられ、細部に至るまで作品を熱心に見入っている姿が印象的でした。
OKURADO含め日本ブランドのジュエリーがより注目を浴びる日が早く来ることを切に願いながら数日の香港滞在を終えました。

Hong Kong after a long time
At the end of November, I went to Hong Kong for the first time in about three years to buy stones.
Hong Kong is one of the areas with the strictest restrictions due to the covid disaster, and covid measures were still strictly enforced, including the wearing of masks, thorough use of contact verification applications, and a ban on eating out for travelers from abroad.
However, the city was as vibrant as ever, and we felt that the only thing left to do was to wait for the gradual increase of tourists.
I saw many precious stones at the jewelry fair held at the convention center in Wan Chai, but unfortunately I could not find any good ones to buy this time.
Even more exciting than the jewelry fair was the CHRISITIE’S auction and auction preview, which was also held at the convention center.
The auction was a diverse collection of objects, paintings, jewelry, ceramics, furniture, and other items, many of which were by well-known Japanese artists, and some were valued at well over 100 million Japanese yen.
Among the visitors were many young people, and it was impressive to see them looking at the pieces with great attention to detail.
I finished my stay in Hong Kong for a few days with a sincere hope that the day will come soon when more attention will be paid to Japanese brand jewelry, including OKURADO.
