フルオーダージュエリーの製作はまさに一件の注文住宅を建てるようなもので、宝石・素材・デザイン・製作・見積もりすべての知識が必要とされるまさにプロならではの作業です。
デザインや条件によってはOKURADOの新しいジュエリーを創るときよりも知識・経験が必要となることもあります。
逆にそれだけ難易度が高い作業だからこそ私たちとしては「フルオーダージュエリー」のご注文も承っている、とも言えます。
先日のお客様の例をご紹介します。（お客様からご了承済です。）
その方のご要望は、「ハートシェイプのルビーを複数個アトランダムに並べて使ったリングをデザインからオーダーしたい」というものでした。
ヒアリングをしているうちに、「エタニティリングもいい」というお話しに発展していきました。
接客時にエタニティリングのサイズ直しが難しいことや手のひら側に留まる石のリスクなどもお伝え後、デザイン画起案へと進みました。
私としてはなかなか難易度が高いな、と思うと同時にお客様の満足するものを作りたいという気持ちもふつふつとめばえてきました、
まずルビーさがし。 何種類か色あいのそろったハートシェイプのルビー複数個のセットを時間をかけてさがします。（意外と複数個のルビーの色を合わせるのは大変です。）
同時にそれらのルビーを使ったデザイン画を起案する作業にも入りますが、ご希望の「アトランダム」、これが意外と難しいのです。
「アトランダム」とはいえ人為的に作り出すうえ、最終的には3次元のリングになった状態で「アトランダム」にしなければなりせん、しかもエタニティリングなのでどこをトップにつけるかはお客様次第。
描けば描くほど作為的になってしまい、「アトランダム」から離れていきます。
ここにルビーをセットして指輪の真下にきたら危ないし、そのリスクを和らげると規則的な並びに近づくし…
ルビーをこの角度にしてしまうとダイヤモンドのメレが入れづらくなり出来上がったときに綺麗にならないし…
この世に一個しか存在しないリングとなるので、ベストの仕上がりのデザインを思い浮かべるのに試行錯誤でした。
意外と複数個のルビーの色を合わせるのは大変です
ときにお客様からのオーダーメイドのご要望が私たちのデザイン、製作の幅を拡げてくれることがあります。
今回のお客様のルビーハートシェイプのフルオーダージュエリー依頼はまさにその例となりました。
お客様にルビーのセットをお決めいただき、「お持ちのダイヤモンドメレをリングに加えたい」というご要望を加味し何回かのデザイン画のやりとりの後、最終デザインが決定しました。
さっそくOKURADOの職人がデザイン画をもとにCADで3Dデザインに起こしていきます。
ほとんどの場合、デザイン画が決まった時には私の頭の中に出来上がりのイメージは想像できているものですが、今回は正直なところ、過去に経験のない配置、バランスゆえに不安な気持ちがありながらの製作作業開始となりました。
３Dプリンターで造形され、プラチナに鋳造、光沢仕上げ、ダイヤモンドメレのセッティングと進むうちにだんだんとその不安はなくなり、むしろ想像以上のものができそうな予感がしてきました。
（弊社工房の職人はいつもデザイン画以上の立体を創り出してくれるので、毎回ただただ感謝しています。）
そして1カ月半ほどかけ、ついに完成。
リングをお客様にお渡しすると大変満足していただくことができ、まさに今回はお客様からたくさんのことを学んだオーダージュエリー製作となったのでした。
言葉にすると平凡になりますが、たえず「学び」は続けなければいけないと感じ、そのうえ「何もないところから新しいジュエリーを創り出す」楽しさも改めて感じたフルオーダージュエリーとなりました。

Custom-made Jewelry
OKURADO often creates one-of-a-kind full-custom jewelry pieces for our customers.
The production of a full-custom jewelry is just like building a custom-built house, which requires knowledge of gemstones, materials, design, production, and estimation, all of which can only be done by professionals.
Depending on the design and conditions, it may require more knowledge and experience than creating a new piece of jewelry for OKURADO.
On the other hand, it can be said that we accept orders for “full order jewelry” because of the high degree of difficulty involved in this process.
Here is an example from a recent customer. (This has already been approved by the customer.)
The customer wanted to order a ring with multiple heart-shaped rubies arranged in an at random pattern.
As we were listening to the customer, we developed the idea of an eternity ring as well.
After informing the customer about the difficulty of resizing eternity rings and the risk of stones staying on the palm side of the hand, we proceeded to draft a design.
I thought it was quite challenging for me, but at the same time, my desire to create something that would satisfy the customer was beginning to flare up,
The first step was to find rubies. I spent a lot of time searching for a set of several heart-shaped rubies in several different colors. (It is surprisingly difficult to match the colors of multiple rubies.)
At the same time, we started to draft a design using these rubies, but it was surprisingly difficult to create the “at random” design that you wanted.
The “atrandum” is artificially created, and the final design must be a three-dimensional ring, and since it is an eternity ring, it is up to the customer to decide where to place the ruby on top.
The more you draw, the more artificial it becomes, and the further away from “atrandom” it becomes.
If you set the ruby here and it comes right under the ring, it would be dangerous, and if you mitigate that risk, it would be closer to a regular sequence…
If the ruby is set at this angle, it will be difficult to insert the diamond melee and the finished ring will not be beautiful…
Since this ring would be the only one of its kind in the world, it was a process of trial and error to come up with the best finished design.
Sometimes a customer’s request for custom-made jewelry expands the scope of our design and production.
This customer’s request for a fully custom ruby heart-shaped jewelry ring was a perfect example of this.
After several rounds of back and forth, the final design was decided after the customer decided on a ruby set and added her request to add her own diamond melee to the ring.
OKURADO’s craftsmen then proceeded to create a 3D design using CAD based on the design drawing.
Most of the time, I have an image of the finished product in my mind when the design is decided, but in this case, to be honest, I started the production process with a sense of uneasiness because I had never experienced the placement and balance of the design before. As we proceeded with the 3D printer, casting in platinum, luster finishing, and diamond melee setting, I gradually became less anxious, and in fact, I had a feeling that we would be able to create something even better than I had imagined.
(The craftsmen in our workshop always create a three-dimensional object that is even better than our design drawings, and I am just grateful for that every time.)
After a month and a half of work, the ring was finally completed.
We were very pleased when we handed the ring to the customer, and we learned a lot from the customer.
It may sound mundane in words, but I felt the need to keep learning, and I also felt the joy of “creating a new piece of jewelry from scratch” once again.
