大倉堂のジュエリーにはローズカットダイヤモンドをよく使用しています。
今回はローズカットの説明をしたいと思います。
ローズカットとはダイヤモンドのカットの名称です。
14世紀頃からダイヤモンドのカットの歴史ははじまりました。
現在最も一般的なカットであるブリリアントカットが考案されたのは17世紀頃といわれていて、その後いくつかの変遷（そのなかにはオールドヨーロピアンカットと呼ばれるとっても魅力的なカットもあります）を経て、今のプロポーションにごく近いブリリアントカットが1950年代くらいから登場します。
ブリリアントカットの中で最も多く使用されているのが、真上からみて円形のラウンドブリリアントカット。ファセット（平らに研磨された面）の数が58面以上のもので、光学的に見てダイヤモンドの輝きを最大限の引き出すように設計されたカットです。
イメージとしては、細かい輝きが強く「チラチラ、きらきら」と輝く感じです。
一方ローズカットは、今のブリリアントカットが普及する以前のカットで、17世紀頃から広まりました。底辺はほぼ平らで、上部はドーム状に盛り上がっています。この盛り上がった形がバラのつぼみを思わせるところから、「ローズカット」と呼ばれています。

一般的にクラウンの部分はブリリアントカットに比べ、ファセットの数はぐっと少ない24の三角形のファセットで形成されています。19世紀頃までのジュエリーでは頻繁に使われていました。ローズカットはブリリアントカットに比べ「きらきら」とした輝きが少ない分、おちついた透明感のある輝きをします。
その透明感、輝きすぎないところが私は好きで、大倉堂ジュエリーで使用する理由のひとつです。

Rose cut diamond
We often use rose cut diamonds in OKURADO jewelry.
In this article, I would like to explain the rose cut.
Rose cut is the name of a diamond cut.
The history of diamond cuts began around the 14th century.
The brilliant cut, which is the most common cut today, is said to have been invented around the 17th century, and after several changes (including a very attractive cut called the Old European cut), the brilliant cut, which is very close to today’s proportions, appeared around the 1950s. The most common type of brilliant cut is the old European cut, which has been in use since the 1950s.
The most commonly used brilliant cut is the round brilliant cut, which is circular when viewed from above. It has 58 or more facets and is designed to maximize the brilliance of the diamond from an optical point of view.
The image of this cut is one of strong fine brilliance and “flicker and sparkle.
The rose cut, on the other hand, was introduced around the 17th century, before the current brilliant cut became popular. The base is almost flat and the top is raised like a dome.
This raised shape reminds us of rosebuds, hence the name “rose cut“. The crown is generally made up of 24 triangular facets, a much smaller number than in the brilliant cut.
It was frequently used in jewelry up to the 19th century.
The rose cut is less “sparkly” than the brilliant cut and has a more subdued, transparent brilliance.
I like its transparency and the fact that it does not sparkle too much, which is one of the reasons why I use it in OKURADO jewelry.
